Built on the concept of the "Contrabass Violin" from the New Violin Family by Carleen Hutchins by the fine maker Robert Spear of Singing Woods Violins. This individual bass has a custom string length (39"), making it a little more like home, and it's perfectly compatible with orchestra tuning. If you're just now hearing about the New Violin Family, these are instrument designs which are finely engineered to produce a very even tonal range in their registers, and this bass is a fine example. With the rib depth closer to that of an average cello, this instrument, surprisingly, has the full projection of a traditional double bass, and a beautifully even sound across the entire register. The overstand is constructed to give easy access to thumb position. Extremely nice fingerboard, custom tailpiece, edge bumpers. Very gratifying to play, with a beautiful, singing tone. Custom-made, this bass has been used for arco and very high-level jazz playing alike. Take this opportunity to acquire a New Violin Family instrument and discover its unique advantages! Includes its custom padded case.
