A very interesting and special bass, just shipped to us from Los Angeles. It' a hybrid (laminated back) German bass, overall very good condition. Repair label from San Antonio, 1973 (could be when the Stenholm machine was installed). One doesn't often see a Stenholm extension in a good state of preservation, but this one is in great shape. The bass is on the large side, with an exceptionally large tone to match. Excellent fingerboard, well set up, quite responsive!
String length 44 3/8" yes that's forty-four and three eighths - not unusual for this type of bass! If you're a giant, you may find it's just perfect for you as-is - or, opt to have our workshop graft a neck to the string length of your choice, and it will still be a great investment. The extension body is well-fitted ebony, so the machine could be replaced with modern chromatic gates for less than a new extension.
