FEATURED FINE BASS
Astounding Giovanni Marcolongo Bass
We can't say enough about this incredible-sounding bass. Giovanni Marcolongo (Padova), ca. 1889, one-piece poplar back, one-piece top, certificate of authenticity, new neck, fingerboard, chromatic C extension, and machines. Tone and personality are outrageous! This very well-preserved bass has very few repairs, has just been updated inside and out, and is completely maintained and in excellent adjustment. With a string length of just 41 1/8” and 2mm of poirette, it’s easy to play in all positions. Original solo-length (meaning no extended length has been added - it’s all one piece) fingerboard. Carbon-fiber bars inlaid in the (new) nicely flamed neck for permanent neck stability and improved resonance. Importantly, the varnish is original and has not been overlaid or French polished. Classic Rubner machines were selected for their durability and ease of exchange to any other Rubner model. This bass features a comparatively wide center bout, enhancing its tone spectrum, and the neck projection was chosen to balance the string tension across the strings as well as select an optimal bridge height/angle over the bridge in order to achieve minimal pressure on the one-piece top and allow maximal freedom of tone and response. The result is an open sound with exceptional resonance. Completely ready to carry you upward on your bass-playing journey, this is an unbeatable choice for its condition, tone, origin, character, and qualities.
