Requesting bows on approval (home trial) from Quantum Bass Center
When customers have reviewed our available inventory and are interested in making a purchase should they find a bow meets their needs, they may request bows (up to a selection of three) to be mailed to them for a one-week approval period. There is no pressure to buy them, and they may be returned within the week with no charge. There is an approval contract in which the customer affirms he/she is intending and prepared to purchase a bow within the approval period (to distinguish the purpose from a general inquiry or wish to use the bows temporarily with no intent to make a purchase selection), and is requesting the approval week to make a final decision. Bows in the least expensive price ranges are cash and carry only.
Q: What is an 'approval period'?
A: An approval period means you are in the process of choosing a bow to buy, and you sign a contract postponing your payment for a chosen item for one week to allow you to make a final purchase decision. It equals a return period, and you don't have to pay until the seventh day.
Q: How is an approval period different than borrowing a bow?
A: Taking an instrument on approval means you are intending and prepared to purchase it by the seventh day. Borrowing means both parties know you will be returning the item at an agreed time, so shopping for a bow is not equivalent to borrowing.
Q: I've made my choice of the three bows. How should I return the other two bows?
A: Utilizing the packing material you received with the shipment, carefully re-wrap the bows so they don't touch each other in the tube, in the manner they were wrapped when you received them. There's no need to purchase full insurance for the shipment as long as you are returning them by the date on your approval contract - if a bow is not returned by the return date on the contract, and it were to incur damage, the insurance company may decline to cover it, and the damage cost would become the customer's responsibility.
Q: The bow I want to buy has different hair than what I prefer. Can I have it rehaired?
A: Yes, we will be happy to rehair it for you at our regular great price. All our bows have good quality, new or recent hair. If a bow comes in to us that needs rehairing, we do it before placing the bow on display. Thus, all bows are sold with the hair as-is.
Q: I just received some bows from you in the mail, and can't get rosin to stick to them.
A: Although we do check every bow before it's shipped, rosin does dry out on bow hair that has not been played in a week or more. This can also occur during shipping. We recommend having a fresh rosin on hand when you request bows on approval, and you can expedite rosin adherence by gently wiping any powdered rosin off the hair with a clean cloth, or riffling the hair with a thumbnail or a dry toothbrush.
Q: Wow! A nice bow case came along with my bows on approval - is it free with purchase?
A: We sometimes send out bows on approval to local customers in a used bow case - please check your approval contract for the price of the bow case, should you choose to purchase it along with your new bow.
Q: What is the best way to pay for the new bow I've chosen?
A: First of all, thanks for your purchase, and congrats on choosing a great bow! We can charge your purchase to the credit card number on your approval contract, or you can send a check in the bow tube when you return it, and receive a small discount for check payment.
Q: I couldn't make a choice during my approval week - can I keep the bows for another week?
A: We do require all inventory not purchased to be returned at the end of your approval period, but should you decide later which bow you would like to purchase, we will be happy to send it to you.
Q: Can I take more than three bows on approval?
A: We can arrange for that; just give us a call or email.
Q: Can you send me one bow, and then if I don't choose it, send me a different one?
A: Yes, we can, though we recommend if you're going to initiate an approval contract, that you choose at least two bows so you have a comparison to your favorite, since the bow tube has to be mailed back anyway.
Q: What's your return policy?
A: Bows that have been on approval prior to purchase are a final sale (the approval period equals a return period).
Q: Can you send me bows on approval outside the US?
A: We regret that due to the lack of sufficient shipment tracking, customs issues, and inability to insure bows outside the country, we only contract approvals within the US at this time. You are welcome to purchase a bow from outside the US.
Q: Can I rent a bow?
A: We have a quality French and German bow available for concert rentals - fine bows on consignment can't be rented.
